AHK-Cu — Copper Tripeptide for Hair & Skin Research
AHK-Cu is a synthetic copper(II)-complexed tripeptide with the sequence Ala-His-Lys (Alanine-Histidine-Lysine), also known as Copper Tripeptide-3 (CAS 682809-81-0). It is structurally related to — but distinct from — the more widely studied GHK-Cu (Gly-His-Lys), and is investigated in dermatological and cosmetic peptide research as a copper carrier and signaling peptide.
Mechanism of Action
AHK-Cu is studied for delivering bioavailable copper and acting as a signaling peptide. In research models it is reported to upregulate vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), stimulate dermal papilla cells and microvascularization, and support collagen and extracellular-matrix production. It has no single classical receptor; copper additionally serves as an essential cofactor for lysyl oxidase (collagen/elastin cross-linking) and superoxide dismutase (antioxidant defense).
