How do I reconstitute a peptide?
Reconstitution means dissolving a lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide in a diluent, usually bacteriostatic water, before you use it in research. What is bacteriostatic water and what is it used for?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth. As a result, researchers can draw from a reconstituted vial multiple times over a period of days or weeks. Overall, it serves as the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilised research peptides.
How should research peptides be stored?
Generally, laboratories keep lyophilised (dry) peptides frozen and away from light and moisture for long-term stability. After reconstitution, researchers usually refrigerate peptides at 2–8°C and use them within a few weeks. Above all, always follow the storage guidance for the specific compound you study.
